Digital Fabrication Lab Technician

About this job
Assist in daily functioning of a fast-paced, creatively demanding lab space. We serve students in all visual arts disciplines and work to facilitate access to our collection of digital fabrication equipment, including laser cutters, CNC routers, CNC plasma cutters and 3D printers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
  • Schedule appointments and answer emails.
  • Lead training sessions and tours for groups of 5-10 at a time.
  • Educate new users on proper use of all equipment.
  • Help set up custom files on a variety of machines using a wide range of materials.
  • Sweep floors, empty scrap containers, clean windows, and maintain general tidiness of the lab.

Job Requirements
  • Ability to multitask in an extremely busy environment.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and helpful demeanor during times of high demand.
  • A core knowledge of Adobe Illustrator is essential. Other software such as Photoshop, Autodesk Fusion 360 would be helpful.
  • Familiarity with both analog and digital fabrication techniques.
  • Experience with hand and power tools such as jigsaws and drills.
  • Be willing to learn the intricacies of all of our equipment to better serve the public.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50lbs, including 4’x8’ sheets of plywood and 4’x4’ sheets of steel.
